<image:caption>A fun, fab debut novel by "someone who knows" (Kizis is, after all, Elle's West Coast editor) … a must-have for fans of "Girlie Porn" (fashion mags) and "Girlie Crack" (shopping for clothes that cost more than what you make in a month). - Publishers Weekly, Starred Review Kizis shines in this debut novel that details the emotional turmoil of unrequited love. More Nick Hornby than Bridget Jones. Libraries should be sure to pick up a copy or two. - Booklist “SASSY…FUN…FRESH. Peruse the pink quizzes and how to pieces sprinkled amid the chapters - People, Starred Review “Hot pic!” - Us weekly, Starred Review “Cute, totally of the moment” - Nylon magazine “An impressive debut from one of America’s top writers.” - Roberta Myers, editor in chief, Elle</image:caption>

An enjoyable meditation on the ones we love, the ones we lose and the healing virtues of cute furniture. - LA Weekly Reminiscent of GOOD GRIEF by Lolly Winston …Touching, funny and bittersweet, Deanna Kizis has written a novel sure to glue you to your couch for the afternoon! - Fresh Fiction “Sometimes, a story will surprise you with its realness. Her characters do a remarkable thing — they don’t just trot along doing what the plot requires them to do, they’re complicated, funny, sad and not always likable ... Smart, never insulting and always entertaining.” - Curled Up A tragic comedy that makes for a breathtakingly optimistic read. - Fantastic Fiction</image:caption>

<image:title>Gods and Monsters-OLD - I once met this actor at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. We got to talking, and I was amazed to find that he seemed … interested. Which was completely incomprehensible to me. After all, I’d seen every one of his movies— romantic comedies, dramas, war epics. I’d read every magazine profile, which would detail his penchant for rock music and his hopes to direct. I wish I could tell you who he is exactly, but when it comes to dating, even famous actors are entitled to their privacy. Suffice it to say he was in the Thin Red Line, and if most women were to list the actors they’d love to date, he’d probably be there. Meanwhile I’m, whatever — just me. No feature films under my belt, no photographers following me around, no entourage. So when he asked for my number, I was beyond flattered. He started calling from shoots in places like Sydney and London. It was heady stuff, and my friends were beside themselves. They were captivated by the minor details that people usually find boring; they berated me for not saving my messages so they could hear him speak. Then irony was inescapable: This superstar was a national obsession — and he was on my voicemail.</image:title>

<image:caption>There will be no – I repeat no – Christmas dinner at Casa de Kizis. I shall not be serving prime rib roast, nor crisped potatoes, nor salad bright with pomegranate seeds and homemade vinaigrette. There shall be no apple pie. Hot chocolate isn’t happening. And neither is, if I say so myself, my truly incredible egg nog. You, my wonderful mom, father, and sisters, may not darken my door. Nor can your boyfriends. And to our closest friends, whose child and my daughter have been friends since they were “in bellies,” I have only one thing to say: Stay away. So, no Christmas. Unless, of course, you are a child. You, o blameless one, will find your stocking hung by the chimney with care and St Nicolas – who I’m pretty sure will do the necessary social distancing to make this work –will be there. <image:caption>First, I have both asthma and an autoimmune disease, which means I have to stay away from people I adore most during this loathsome and terrifying time. And should you attempt to remind me, loved ones, that we live in Southern California, and therefore could technically have Christmas outside, socially distanced, I still say, NEIGH! Sorry, that was Rudolph, who’s complaining again that he has to wear a mask. I meant nay as in, no. Forget it. Not a snowball’s chance in, well, you know. Let’s go back to this past Thanksgiving, shall we. It was in my backyard. There was turkey. There was stuffing. There was pie. And, how do I put this nicely? It sucked. Dad was grumpy the second he walked in. Mom was trying to put a good face on it. My daughter was cold. And I was in terror as my father marched up to me, and thrust a bottle of Merlot from his unsanitized hands toward my clean ones, exclaiming, “Just take it!”</image:caption>

      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>I work as a journalist, author, ghostwriter, and editor — and sometimes I’m a screenwriter, too. Honestly, I used to think this was a problem. If I could just stick to one thing, I thought, my work would make more sense. But then I realized that there’s a through-line that explains what I do: I love to tell stories. Your story, their story, made-up stories, brand stories, and sometimes I tell my own story, too. Here are my bonafides … JOURNALISM I’ve been the West Coast editor of Elle, a contributor at Harper’s Bazaar, a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, and the contributing home and garden editor at Sunset. My work has also appeared in The Hollywood Reporter, Cosmo, Allure, AD, Elle Decor, Domino, Vanity Fair, Hunker, Nylon, Women’s Health, Glamour, and more. BOOKS I’m the author of PUGGLETON PARK and PUGGLETON PARK: THE CURSE OF THE CANIS DIAMOND, along with PLEASE DON’T READ THIS BOOK! and more. My books have been published by Penguin, Warner Books, and Grand Central Publishing. I’ve also been included in several anthologies. SCREENPLAYS I’ve created and written multiple original television pilots and films for ABC, Paramount, Freeform, Sony, MTV, and independent film. GHOSTWRITING, DEVELOPMENT & EDITING I love helping others write books, screenplays, blogs, websites, newsletters — I think I could even write a killer lost dog poster if you need one. Of course, I can’t tell you who my clients because discretion is the point. Tell me what you need, and I’ll tell you exactly how I can assist. <image:caption>One can also lose Kizis Points for doing things that are irretrievably dumb. Like when my dad pressure washed the windows of our house while they were open. Or the many times I’ve run into a glass door en route to a swimming pool. (I live in California; it happens more often than you’d think.) Perhaps Kizis Points are why I love to write about ingenuity and triumph, with the occasional dash of foolishness and loss. We never have one for long before we get smacked with the other, but that makes for a great story, don’t you think?</image:caption>
